Twiga is a solidarity organization. Together with other grass root organizations in the world, we learn from each other, create opportunities and inform about an alternative development. Twiga means giraffe in Kiswahili, the language that many people in the heart of Africa speak.

Chairman Ngotowa as the Ice Sculptor

Gerald Ngotowa, Mooni Sports Clubs chairman, is now known for the Scanians as The ice Sculptor whom never seen snow before.

Long-awaited schoolbooks!

All of the school children gathered in the playground to receive their new schoolbooks, bought with the 5500 SEK worth of Christmas donations we collected. It was a great pleasure to hand over the books to the school, knowing that they were dearly needed.

Welcome to the 2010 Twiga Annual Meeting

Twiga’s Annual Conference will take place on Saturday 27 March 2010 at Föreningen Slottet, Prennegatan 8B, Lund. Members who wish to put forward a topic of discussion are kindly requested to write a motion which should be made available to the board no later than 27 February. All motions (along with any annotations by the board), the annual report and financial statements will be available to print from our website (www.twiga.se) two weeks before the meeting and are otherwise obtainable via e-mail or by regular post.

Happy New Year

Twiga wishes our members and cooperation partners a Happy New Year! The Board of Twiga would like to thank everyone for a wonderful year and we are looking forward to an exciting 2010 with project development, activities and knowledge sharing in Sweden, Uganda and Kenya.

Christmas holiday means sport

November, the last school month of the year has come to its end. The youths of Mooni Sports Club are now finally free after two stressful weeks packed with exams. As far as we know most of the players have passed their grades, many even finding the exams easy and passes with top score.

Åke Larsson is giving his speech

At the European Development Days 2009 Åke Larsson, director for Österlen folkhögskola, spoke about our table tennis project in Mbale, Uganda, and about the advantages of mixing education with sports to create a motivating climate for development.

The upcoming project of the Uganda Committee

The Uganda Committee has now chosen a path for our future work. Our new partner is Health Alert - Uganda and they work with hiv/aids issues and have a special focus on children and youth. We have now applied for money for a project. Health Alert would like to carry out an youth exchange program together with a teenage centre in Kampala.

Organization Development Day

Twiga had an organization deveopment day on September the 19th where the board, project managers, representatives from working groups and other active members in the organization gathered in Malmö, Sweden. The goal of the day was to discuss and to find solutions as to how we can improve different areas within the organization.

The Uganda Committee

 

Riots in Kampala

Uganda is a country that, like many other African countries, has been formed during the colonialism. This means that Uganda CONSISTS OF four different kingdoms. Baganda, the largest ethnic group in Uganda, has long wanted the kings to regaintheir former power. Something that the government does not support and today the kings have no constitutional power.
