About Twiga
What is Twiga?
Twiga is a non-profit, non-governmental organization working with development cooperation. At the moment, Twiga cooperates with organizations in Uganda and Kenya, but we are open to cooperating with organizations from all around the world. Twiga has previously cooperated with organizations in India and Tanzania, too.
Our work is based on the equal rights and possibilities of all human beings, regardless of sex, ethnicity, religion or where in the world you live. Twiga strives towards a long-term sustainable work, which contributes to decreasing the gap between different peoples’ living conditions. We want to contribute to a fairer and more equal world, and we would like to achieve this by cooperating at grass root level with the people who are affected by the projects. A central issue in the work of Twiga is how to accomplish all this without creating dependence.
An important part of Twiga’s work is also all the knowledge and joy that we get from the mutual cooperation with our development cooperation partners. You can read more about our goals in our bylaws and in our policy document “Goals of Twiga”.
The organizational structure of TwigaTwiga is made up of a board with seven board members and three substitutes who, among other things, support the work groups of Twiga. A work group in Twiga is a group of members who have come together to work with a theme or a geographical place and who work towards a common goal or vision. Each work group could work with one or several projects with more detailed goals. A work group can last over time or come together only to fulfil one activity. A work group can work internationally or within Sweden.
You can also become active in Twiga without being part of a work group. You could for example help with occasional activities in Sweden. An example of such an activity could be a flee market, events and to inform about Twiga at different forums, etc.
All work in the name of Twiga shall be made in accordance with our policies, which you find here. These policies are written by the board of Twiga in cooperation with the work groups.
