Mbale Tigers : Mbale Tigers Mission

Since 2003 the partner has been Mbale Tigers Table Tennis Club. The club is located in Mbale, in mid Uganda.

The project LLTTP works as a link between youth in Uganda and national/international foundations, private persons and companies.

The goal of this co-operation is to support personal development for youth and poverty reduction. The main method is giving youth between 6-18 years a possibility to sport and get education for free. The overall goal is to start up the first table tennis academy in Africa. The academy will offer sports and education. The academy shall be build before 2013, but we hope already in 2011.

The majority of the members in Mbale Tigers is very poor and lives in slum-areas. The main centre for playing is Malukhu Youth Centre, located 1km from the central Mbale.

To reach as many as possible, the club have nine partner institutions. All partners have received table tennis equipment. Most of these institutions are schools in rural and urban areas, but also orphanages. Today approximately 1000 youth have the possibility to play table tennis for free.

The philosophy is self-sustainability. Some of the implemented activities is to focus to develop the organization, to start up different income-generating projects like selling equipment made in the carpentry, selling food in the canteen, to offer a gym and coaching.

Keywords in the co-operation: Self sustainable, sports as a developing factor, organization development, education, poverty reduction, personal and psychosocial development, income generation and networking.
