Christmas holiday means sport

November, the last school month of the year has come to its end. The youths of Mooni Sports Club are now finally free after two stressful weeks packed with exams. As far as we know most of the players have passed their grades, many even finding the exams easy and passes with top score. As Monica Faith, a 15 year old netball lover expressed; ”For me the exams where easy, I guess if you do your homework every day, before training that is, the exams can't fool you”. This is an inspiring quote for anyone, especially while knowing it comes from a young High School girl, who's parents aren't around, living in a two-room mud house, taking care of her three younger siblings.

Now December has come, for all Ugandans - without any doubt - the top best month of the year. No matter if you are rich or pore, December promises you celebration, family reunion, holiday and sports! Due to the hectic term congested with studies and church activities the Neball action was put on hold. But now when 2 months of free time has begun, the female members of MSC are coming to the pitch eager to start training seriously to prepare for the games next month.

Time for football

December is also the month for football. The senior team consisting of players between 15 and 22 years of age is at the moment going for the trophy in to tournaments. Yesterday we got the best of the Super Giants from Mototo in a 2-0 win, a win we seriously needed after three consecutive 0-0 draws. The feeling of rolling in trough the market street of Mooni, singing and chanting, after a away win like that beats most things. The younger footballers are also soon to start with there Christmas Cup. They have to big extent organized the tournament themselves and managed invite seven teams to come up to the sloping field of Mooni. As long as the club provide with materials, referees and of course the prize goat its all sett.

Sport seminars

During November the seminar series for the footballers was ended with the to finishing seminars. The were both on the topic of organizational development. We talk about the members rights, responsibilities and opportunities within the club. It was clear that there was a lot of things to discuss and both the seminars felt very important. Certificates for the seminar series are now printed and yesterday we had the hand over ceremony. Drawing from are so far clean sheet the seminars which was held in October concerning formations and defensive tactics payed of well.

Boys and Girls Groups

The initiation of the Boy & Girl groups focusing on Hiv/Aids-prevention is now four weeks old. Although most of the youths are somehow tired of lectures, they still insist on attending our meetings. ”The topics are so interesting, so inspiring since they cover our present life as youths which thereby will form our futures”. We meet once a week, Boys and Girls separate, discuss topics surrounding love, relationships and lifestyles, all in one way or the other connected to the presence and social structures attached to the issue of Hiv/Aids.
