Riots in Kampala

Uganda is a country that, like many other African countries, has been formed during the colonialism. This means that Uganda CONSISTS OF four different kingdoms. Baganda, the largest ethnic group in Uganda, has long wanted the kings to regaintheir former power. Something that the government does not support and today the kings have no constitutional power.

King Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II recently wanted to visit one of the areas in his community that was quite hostile. Because of the sensitive character of the issue, the government forbade him to make the visit. This angered the Baganda who started rioting and setting fire to houses and cars. Among other things four FM radios were shut down for inciting the violence, one police station was burnt down and one journalist was arrested. Around twenty people have been killed and hundreds are hospitalised. After days of disturbances, the social order is now back to normal.
