Oloililai Girls Student Foundation : Cooperation Partners and Networks
Our primary partner in this project is the organisation Oloililai Girls Student Foundation and its steering committee in Enkokidongoi. Furthermore, we cooperate with a group of committed people that makes up an advisory board. These people are called ex-officials or co-opted members. Other partners are naturally, the sponsored girls and not the least their parents as well.
You can read more about the different co-operation partners and the structure of the foundation below.
The steering committee in Enkokidongoi: This committee is made up by three Maasai women, all locals of Enkokidongoi village. Sainko Partelekkua (chairlady), Veronica Sarbabi (treasurer) and Jocelyn Ole Gisa (secretary). The committees is responsible for the everyday managing of the foundation in Kenya. They are in charge of payments of the school fees, collecting the sponsored girls' report cards, communicate with the girls, the parents and the schools, managing the book keeping, communicate and report to Twiga, be part of the process of choosing new girls for sponsorship and so forth.
The "Ex-officials" / "Co-opted members": To increase transparency, knowledge and technical skills the foundation has an advisory group of co-opted members that have either a position in society or expert knowledge that contributes to the foundation and gives the foundation a unique credibility. They are all committed to education issues in Kenya and especially education in Kajiado district.
The six ex-officials are:
Mr. Anderson Ole Ndurano - Head teacher, Noontoto Primary School[1]
Mrs Lois Pulei - Area Education Officer[2] Namanga
Miss Jane Mangiga - Divisional Youth Officer[3]
Mr. Stephen Murianka - former secretary for Kenya National Teachers Union (KNUT), Stephen now works for the NGO Dopoto e Maa[4] that mainly works with education.
Mrs Mary Rose - Senior Teacher at a Secondary School in Namanga.
Mr Sadera - Assistant chief[5], Enkokidongoi
Their tasks are to strengthen the capacity of the steering committee, bring in new ideas and thoughts on how to develop the foundation, identify criteria for choosing new girls eligible for sponsorship, hold workshops, monitor and evaluate the development of the foundation
Oloililai Girls Student Foundation is not a NGO or a CBO in a traditional sense with membership open to anyone interested. The members of the organisation are the parents of the sponsored girls. This enables us to include the parents in the decision-making. As members they will therefore play an important role in the development of the Foundation and also be given a chance to contribute, in terms of minor funding, and as well participate in workshops.
The sponsored girls' are off course the main focus of all our work. Since they are all at boarding shools, some very far from Enkokidongoi, the committee meets with them three times a year during longer school holidays. Once a year the girls are expected to write a letter to Twiga.
