Where We Work

Twiga has currently projects and cooperations with partners in Uganda and Kenya, and has activities in Sweden. Twiga has previously had projects in India and Tanzania.

India

The sub-continent India consists of 28 different states and seven locally run union territories. It is estimated that there lives more than one billion people in India, they have 18 national languages as well as a many minority languages. Hindi is the dominating language but since it is a former English colony they also speak some English, mostly in the middle and upper class.

Southern Kenya

Twiga cooperates with different organizations in Southern Kenya for the purpose of supporting the Massai people´s quest for improved living conditions in a difficult situation.

We have cooperated with different organisations in the area of Enkokidongoi, which is situated east of the mountain Oldoinyo Orok, ever since Twiga was established.

Sweden

Twiga works actively in Sweden in many different ways through board work, work groups, fund-raising, spreading of information, Twigas website and arrangement of activities. You can read more about what Twiga does in Sweden here.

Tanzania - East Africa

Tanzania is located by the coast in East Africa. In the year of 2004, Tanzania had a population of 37,6 million people.* In the year of 2002, 46 % of the population was below 15 years of age.** The official language of Tanzania is Kiswahili, but there are around 200 other local languages.

About half of Tanzania’s population lives below the poverty line. Tanzania was placed 162 out of 177 countries, which were included in the Human Development Report 2006.

Uganda - East Africa

Uganda is situated in East Africa with English as the official language. The populations is made up of many ethnic groups with Christianity and Islam as the largest religions. According to the Human Development Report 2006 83% of the population live in poverty. Twiga cooperates with grass roots organisations in Uganda to support democracy, sports and education.
